Four Easy Fixes for Low Indoor Humidity in Ruckersville

post img

Indoor humidity is a tricky balance to find. Too much and you get that muggy, swampy feeling that nobody enjoys. Too little and you can experience things like dry skin, scratchy throats, and general itchiness, among other symptoms. This time of year, humidity levels tend to drop drastically and odds are you’re already experiencing any number of the previously listed issues. So the question remains: what can you do as a homeowner to strike that perfect humidity balance in your residence?

The first step to alleviating your humidity problems is to get the story straight. Check you local weather and make sure it’s not just a transient change of the weather. If you can confirm your humidity woes aren’t just Mother Nature acting up, then your next step is to act in accordance with your issues.

Buy a humidifier/s

One of the easiest fixes for low indoor humidity is to buy and set up a humidifier or humidifiers for your home. As you may already be aware, humidifiers take water you place in a reservoir and put it back into the surrounding air. One or more of these devices will be the most effective way to increase your home’s humidity levels. Just fill the machine, turn it on, and feel the air lighten around you. Prices for humidifiers run the gamut from cheap to massively expensive, dispensing mostly on how big the unit is and how effective it is at ranges.

Keep Houseplants

A little known trick towards keeping your house at perfect humidity is to keep a few houseplants around. The plants, through their photosynthesis process, release molecules into the air that assist in keeping your home more humid, even if slightly. The more plants, the more humidity they create.

Cook food with the lids off

A very simple hack for getting some extra humidity in your home is simply cooking food with no lids on the pots and pans. This is especially helpful when boiling water on the stovetop. The water from the food being cooked is heated up and released into the air where it then disperses through the rest of your home.

Moisture from the Shower

When you take a hot shower, the vapor from the hot water goes into the air and creates that relaxing sauna-like atmosphere. This is a fantastic way to bring humidity into your home and is probably the easiest option you have. Simply taking a long warm shower (or even just letting it run on its own) with the bathroom door open, is a surefire way to boost humidity levels in your home on the cheap and easy.
